  • Correspondence discussing, among other things, whether micturition syncope may simply be carotid sinus syncope. Mulrooney observes that "it is not uncommon for some men, while urinating, to strike a pose in which the face for some unknown reason, is directed well toward the ceiling." With a tight collar, this could trigger carotid sinus syncope. To which Proudfit responds that "Tight collars are rarely worn during [sleep and] it does not seem common for men to gaze at the ceiling in the privacy of their own bathrooms: this pose is assumed in public places probably, for various reasons." Ah, that such decorous language would survive today! [101]
